Flume – Holdin’ On (Kaytranada Edit)

Having already smashed out edits on Soundcloud during 2012 with his signature sound branded across various artists like Janet Jackson and Erykah Badu, Kaytranada has really blown up this year with a whole host of dope new edits and an EP released in February.  The Montreal-based beat maker is only 20 years old and represents one of the mainstays of label HW&W Recordings. His hip hop-infused electronica sounds is really capturing the future of electronica production – albeit in a much more hip hop augmented fashion – and his innovative takes on traditional instrumental hip-hop soundscapes have resulted in a wealth of dynamic material. Holding On kicks off with deep, dreamy keys while the introduction of hand-claps and fluctuating sonic synths ascend into a head-snapping bassline/drum combo so characteristic of Kaytranada’s sound. The track is executed excellently with pitched-up, chopped vocal samples that add real soul to the track that kicked off his LA Boiler Room mix earlier in the year.
