Ackryte – Blank Map [HW&W]

We’re massive fans of LA-based label HW&W records – Lakim’s edit of Bahwee’s Prima Donnas in 2012 has definitely been one of our favourite edits of recent times (for a reminder, check it out here) and served as a fine indication of what the label represent. Boasting an impressive roster of the freshest modern-day beat-makers, including the likes of Kaytranada, Ta-Ku and Elaquent, the imprint continually dish up a flurry of the biggest beats, with each artist providing their own creative spin on hip hop, funk, jazz and electronica, blending aspects of each genre in intuitively fine fashion. This time we bring you Ackryte, a producer hailing from the confines of Wisconsin and one of the latest proteges to emerge from HW&W’s books. Blank Map kicks off with off-beat drums and gaudy piano keys blissfully taking the beat on a path of hip hop and jazz . Utilising Dilla-like swoops and chopped loops, Ackryte’s free-flowing hip hop/jazz hybrid instrumental is a serious offering into the sounds of a producer you should keep an ear out for.
